Seasonal low pressure is affecting the region, with the Cyprus weather forecast pointing to possible isolated rain and thunderstorms despite temperatures reaching 37C inland on Monday.
Conditions will initially be mainly clear, although increased low cloud and light mist may occur locally during the morning. The weather is expected to become more unsettled after midday, particularly over the mountains.
Isolated rain and thunderstorms possible
Cloud developing after midday could bring isolated rain or a brief thunderstorm, particularly in mountainous areas and possibly in the south.
Winds will be south-westerly to north-westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, initially becoming light and variable at 3 Beaufort in some areas.
They will temporarily strengthen to 5 Beaufort along exposed coasts during the afternoon.
The sea will gradually become slight, while conditions in the east will remain calm to slight.
Temperatures will reach around 37C inland, 31C on the western coast, 33C on the south-eastern and eastern coasts and 32C along the remaining coastal areas. Temperatures in the higher mountains will reach around 29C.
Clear night with increasing cloud
Monday night will be mainly clear, although increased high cloud will develop later, with some local low cloud also possible.
Winds will be mainly westerly to north-westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort before gradually weakening.
The sea will become calm to slight in the south and east, while remaining slight in western and northern coastal areas.
Temperatures will fall to around 21C inland, 22C along the coast and 18C in the higher mountains.
More showers possible on Tuesday and Wednesday
Tuesday and Wednesday will be mainly clear, although increased high cloud is expected on Tuesday.
During the afternoons, however, locally developing cloud could produce isolated rain or thunderstorms, mainly over mountainous areas.
The Cyprus weather forecast indicates no significant change in temperature through Wednesday, with readings remaining slightly above seasonal averages.
More unsettled weather expected Thursday
Conditions are expected to become more unsettled on Thursday, when cloud will thicken at times.
Localised rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast after midday, particularly over the mountains and inland areas. Hail is also possible during thunderstorms.
Further isolated rain could develop on Thursday night, mainly in western areas, while an isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out along the coast.
Temperatures will fall on Thursday, returning to around the seasonal average.
