The priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, developments in the Cyprus issue and the situation in the Middle East are some of the issues that Cyprus President, Nikos Christodoulides, will discuss on Friday with his Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vucic, in Belgrade.

According to a statement by the Presidency, President Christodoulides has arrived in Belgrade for a working visit on Thursday evening, as part of a series of visits abroad ahead of Republic of Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.

It said that President Christodoulides’ meeting with Vucic, at the Palace of Serbia, is to take place at 11 am Cyprus time. The meeting will be followed by expanded talks and a working lunch, it added.

“Among the issues to be discussed are the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU, developments in the Cyprus issue and the situation in the Middle East,” the statement said.

It notes that President Christodoulides, who is accompanied by Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, the Director of his Diplomatic Office Doros Venezis and Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou, was received yesterday evening upon his arrival in Belgrade by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Marko Duric.

President Christodoulides, said in a post on X on Thursday evening upon arriving in Belgrade that this would be his first working visit to European Union Member States, candidate countries and selected third countries, as part of Cyprus’ preparations for assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026.

Duric, in his own post on X, welcomed President Christodoulides to Serbia noting that this year the two countries celebrate the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Serbia and Cyprus, he said, “stand as a testament to genuine friendship—rooted in close ties between our peoples, mutual respect, solidarity, and unwavering trust on matters of national significance to both our countries”.
