Cyprus-Greece joint exercise with frigate “Kimon” participating

Bilateral search and rescue drill

On Sunday, 8 March 2026, Cyprus and Greece carried out a bilateral search and rescue (SAR) exercise named “SALAMIS-01/26”. The operation took place within the Republic of Cyprus’ SAR Area of Responsibility.

Participation of naval and air units

The exercise involved the Greek Navy frigate “Kimon”, a helicopter from the 460 Search and Rescue Squadron of the National Guard, and a helicopter from the Police Air Operations Unit. The coordinated effort tested response capabilities across multiple platforms.

Coordination and objectives

The Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Centre led the exercise in collaboration with the Hellenic National Defence General Staff and the National Guard General Staff. The operation falls under the bilateral Cyprus-Greece SAR agreement, activating its provisions to enhance SAR services in the Eastern Mediterranean.
