FGS Nordrhein-Westfalen arrives in Limassol

On Sunday morning, the German frigate FGS Nordrhein-Westfalen (F223) docked in Limassol while operating as part of UNIFIL, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. The frigate replaces the German Sachsen-Anhalt, which completed its six-month Mediterranean deployment.

Strengthening UNIFIL naval presence

According to sources, the visit strengthens the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force in the Eastern Mediterranean, safeguarding allies and EU borders amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The Nordrhein-Westfalen has docked in Limassol multiple times in recent years.

Modern Baden-Württemberg class frigate

The vessel is a modern Baden-Württemberg class (F125) frigate of the German Navy, deployed to ensure maritime security as part of ongoing UNIFIL operations. Its arrival continues Germany’s commitment to stabilising the region and supporting allied naval forces.
