Weak low-pressure and an unstable air mass continue to affect the region, bringing unsettled weather conditions to Cyprus over the coming days.
Today, the weather will be mainly cloudy at intervals with localised showers. Around midday and later in the afternoon, developing clouds are expected to trigger isolated thunderstorms, mainly over mountainous areas and the eastern half of the island.
Hail may also fall during thunderstorms.
Strong winds and rough seas
Winds will initially blow southwesterly to northwesterly at 4 to 5 Beaufort, gradually strengthening to strong or very strong at 5 to 6 Beaufort. Along southern coastal areas, winds may temporarily reach severe levels of up to 7 Beaufort.
The sea will be slight at first before gradually becoming rough.
Temperatures will rise to 26 °C inland, around 24 °C along southern and eastern coasts, near 21 °C on western and northern coasts, and 16 °C in the higher mountains.
Rain and storms expected through Saturday
Tonight, locally increased cloud cover may bring isolated showers, mainly in western areas. Winds will ease slightly, blowing southwesterly to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while coastal areas may still experience winds reaching 5 Beaufort.
Temperatures overnight will drop to 13 °C inland, around 15 °C along the coast, and 9 °C in the higher mountains.
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the weather will remain partly cloudy at intervals with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly during the afternoon over mountainous areas and the eastern half of Cyprus.
Hail remains possible during thunderstorms.
Temperatures stay below seasonal averages
Temperatures on Thursday are expected to rise slightly. However, by Saturday, a small drop is forecast, with temperatures continuing to remain below average climatic values for the season.
