Christodoulides and Tatar to attend UN reception in Nicosia

Date:

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar are set to attend the annual end-of-year reception hosted by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and head of United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), Colin Stewart.

The event, scheduled for December 10 at the Ledra Palace in Nicosia, will commence at 1900 local time. Both leaders have confirmed their participation, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) has learned.

The two leaders’ last encounter took place during a dinner hosted by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York on October 15.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
