The Cabinet today approved the allocation of a special Christmas Bonus for 2024, expanding eligibility to include new categories of beneficiaries for the first time. This increases the total number of recipients by 40,000 to over 100,000, with the total cost reaching €20.5 million, €3.25 million more than last year.
It is noted that no application is required. The amount will be automatically credited to the beneficiaries.
Specifically, for 2024, the special Christmas Bonus has been extended to the following new categories:
- All national guardsmen, with an amount of €100,
- All new mothers who received maternity benefits in 2023–2024 from the Social Insurance Services or the Welfare Benefits Management Service, with an amount of €100,
- All families with three or more children receiving Child Benefits, with an amount of €100 per family,
- Children of repatriated families attending the primary schools of Kormakitis and Rizokarpaso, with an amount equal to their resettlement allowance,
- All single-parent families eligible for the Single Parent Family Allowance, regardless of their income or savings, with an amount of €100.
It is reminded that historically, the Christmas Bonus was only provided to single-parent family allowance recipients with an income limit of €19,500 and savings up to €10,000.
Additionally, as every year, the Christmas Bonus will also be given to:
- Guaranteed Minimum Income (GMI) recipients, with an amount equivalent to 80% of the family’s basic needs,
- Low-income pensioners, with an amount equal to their December pension supplement, with a minimum of €100,
- Recipients of the Honorary Allowance for Mothers of Large Families, with an amount of €100,
- Public assistance recipients, with an amount equivalent to 80% of the family’s basic needs,
- Trapped persons and their children, with an amount equal to their trapped person allowance.
