Burnt vehicle and charred body linked to missing 77-year-old

A burnt vehicle discovered in the Liopetri area, where a charred body was found inside, is now linked to a 77-year-old man from Xylofagou who has been missing since Monday afternoon.

Authorities are treating the case as a missing person investigation pending formal identification of the remains.

DNA testing to confirm identity

According to the British Bases Police, a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

During the procedure, DNA samples will be collected in order to confirm the identity of the deceased and determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation remains ongoing under the jurisdiction of the British Bases Police.

Fire and technical experts at the scene

The alert regarding the burning vehicle was received at around 9:00am, prompting immediate response from authorities.

The scene was cordoned off by British Bases police officers from Dhekelia, while firefighters from the Cyprus Fire Service attended the location to assist with scene management and safety checks.

Members of the Electrical and Mechanical Services also carried out inspections in an effort to determine the cause of the fire.

Missing person connection under examination

Investigators are currently examining the connection between the missing 77-year-old and the burned-out vehicle.

Police continue to gather evidence as forensic procedures progress, while the case remains open until official identification is completed.
