Walking across a mall you will encounter a beauty parlor booth. They advertise their products as high-end and as way more expensive than they sell them for. For example, you will be told that the eye cream is actually worth €1000 and they sell it for €399. The sellers make commissions through every sale so it is understandable why they would try their hardest to sell you a product.
The process begins with the demonstration of the products on you and then very “subtly” begins working on the art of bazaar. The conversation will play-out as follows:
“Which product did you enjoy most?”
You will kindly reply:
“I think both products are okay, but I don’t think I’d buy them.”
“Don’t look at the price, I will leave it to you for €30 euros less.”
Now if you don’t budge the owner will come in trying to demonstrate a different product and that’s when they truly start undermining your intellect.
“I will sell this (eye cream) to you for €199, and you get the peel for free.”
Here is the thing… You will tell them that €200 is not a price you are willing to pay for a beauty product because no matter the results it just isn’t a necessity.
With the economy deteriorating day by day a Cypriot citizen is left counting coins. The final blow comes when she says, “I will leave this product (priced at €150) for €60” When you finally tell them you do not want to spend that money because it really isn’t an essential product, you will be faced with “You really can’t afford €60?”
Unfortunately, it has come to a point, where a Cypriot citizen cannot even afford to pay €60 especially when it comes to supporting a brand that very clearly thinks a customer can be tricked with crazy price drops.
Additionally, another issue should be raised. How can you judge someone by what they can afford? And why? Why not consider that your products are just not worth it? Not so much the price drop, but the judgement on being unwilling or unable to spend money on non-essential products.
Are business owners so detached from what is actually happening to the economy because of their actions?
