Police arrested a 33-year-old man yesterday to assist with investigations into a case involving illegal possession of drugs with intent to supply, causing public disturbance, assaulting police officers, and resisting lawful arrest.
At around 7:30 p.m., police officers on patrol in Limassol signaled a cyclist to stop for inspection. Upon noticing the officers, the cyclist attempted to flee. During his attempt, he fell off his bicycle and continued on foot. Police officers managed to intercept him a short distance away.
At that point, he attacked and pushed the officers. However, they managed to restrain and arrest him for the offenses of causing a disturbance, breach of the peace, and assaulting a police officer.
A subsequent search revealed that the suspect was in possession of 26 packages containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of 20 grams, 19 nylon packages containing methamphetamine weighing 9 grams, and €442 in cash.
The 33-year-old was re-arrested for the offense of illegal possession of drugs with intent to supply and was taken into custody to facilitate investigations.
The Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) and the Agios Ioannis Police Station are continuing their inquiries.
