The Holy Synod is still waiting for Bishop Tychikos to contact the Church and arrange tο fulfill the obligations he has been assigned, Archbishop Georgios said on Wednesday during a visit to the Palestinian Embassy in Nicosia. The embassy hosted a symbolic event to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Asked whether he had any information on whether Bishop Tychikos has returned to Cyprus, the Archbishop replied that he did not. “He has not notified us at all,” he said, adding that Tychikos is expected to reach out when he is back on the island.
“We are waiting for [Bishop Tychikos] to communicate so he can settle the obligations assigned to him by the Holy Synod,” he said, reiterating that they remain pending until the bishop contacts the Church.
Archbishop’s message on Palestine
Turning to the situation in Palestine, Archbishop Georgios expressed hope that “God will soon help bring an end to the hostilities in the region, so the Palestinian people may live peacefully and freely in their land, contributing to the prosperity of the whole area.”
In the message he wrote in the embassy’s guestbook, the Archbishop wished the Palestinian people “every happiness and prosperity”. He added: “May God grant that hostilities in the region cease soon, and may the Palestinian people live freely in their own independent state, contributing to peace and prosperity across the wider region.”
