Daylight saving time ends on 25 October

Date:

Daylight saving time ends in Cyprus on Sunday 25 October 2026, giving residents an extra hour of sleep as clocks move back from 04:00 to 03:00.

The Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry confirmed the change in an official announcement, reminding the public that the measure applies across all European Union member states.

With the return to winter time, sunrise will occur earlier, but evenings will also become darker sooner.

Mobile phones, computers and most modern electronic devices will adjust automatically, while analogue clocks will need to be changed manually.

When will the clocks change again?

The next scheduled clock change will take place on Sunday 28 March 2027.

At 03:00 that morning, clocks in Cyprus and Greece will move forward one hour to 04:00, marking the start of daylight saving time.

The European Commission has already published the schedule of clock changes through to 2031, confirming that the system will continue under the current legal framework.

Why do the clocks change twice a year?

Daylight saving time was introduced to make better use of natural daylight during the months with longer days and to reduce electricity consumption.

Within the European Union, the system is governed by Directive 2000/84/EC, which provides for the transition to daylight saving time on the last Sunday of March and the return to standard, or winter, time on the last Sunday of October.

However, the energy-saving benefits of the practice have been questioned, as modern electricity consumption patterns differ considerably from those of previous decades.

The change will take place as scheduled, with Cyprus returning to standard winter time until March 2027.
