Five Syrian nationals aged 20 to 29 have been arrested in connection with a robbery in which a Russian couple were threatened with knives and a gun while sleeping at their home in Agios Athanasios on October 8.
Couple threatened with knives and gun
The robbery took place when five masked men entered the couple’s home through an unsecured window while the residents were asleep.
According to the complaint filed with police, the suspects restrained the couple and stole €5,000, US$1,000 and jewellery valued at approximately €200,000.
The perpetrators reportedly tied up and gagged the 43-year-old man before ordering his 36-year-old wife to open the home’s safe.
The couple eventually managed to free themselves and alert the police.
Clothing and tools seized during search
Police carried out a search of the residence where the five suspects live in Limassol under a court-issued warrant.
During the search, officers found and seized clothing and tools believed to have been used in the commission of the offences.
The five suspects are expected to appear before the Limassol District Court for the issuance of remand orders.
The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department is continuing its investigations.
