A mosquito campaign is underway to protect public health and reduce mosquito breeding sites, with the municipality stressing the importance of residents’ cooperation.
The Limassol Municipality said systematic checks are being carried out in open areas in cooperation with the State Health Services.
Action against stagnant water
Where stagnant water is found, measures are taken to remove it, including drainage or, where necessary, the use of approved biological treatments to control mosquito larvae.
Open areas are also being cleared of wild vegetation and unwanted items to reduce places where stagnant water can collect and create mosquito breeding sites.
The municipality stressed that removing even small amounts of stagnant water from private properties can make a significant contribution to reducing breeding sites.
Residents urged to check private spaces
Residents are urged to pay particular attention to stagnant water collecting in flowerpot saucers, buckets and other containers, barrels and tanks, old tyres, swimming pools, gutters and other areas where water can accumulate.
Anyone noticing an increased presence of mosquitoes in any area within the municipality is asked to contact the Limassol Municipality Public Health and Cleaning Department on 25 884590 or 25 884555.
Officials will then carry out checks and take appropriate measures where necessary.
The municipality said protecting public health is a collective responsibility and that cooperation from residents is essential to addressing the problem effectively.
