Prices for school supplies have remained stable in Cyprus supermarkets this year, according to Andreas Hadjidadamou, Executive Secretary of the Cyprus Supermarkets Association.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency on Thursday, Hadjidadamou said consumers have a wide range of choices to meet different needs and budgets.
Asked whether retailers had recorded price increases, he said no, noting that while other product categories have faced upward price pressures, supermarkets have worked to keep school supply prices stable.
Supermarkets strengthen supplier networks
Hadjidadamou explained that supermarkets have strengthened their cooperation with suppliers in recent years and have also increased their own imports.
The aim, he said, is to reduce reliance on markets where price pressures may emerge.
According to a survey conducted by the association in recent days, large, medium-sized and small supermarkets have sufficient stocks of essential school supplies and are offering them at “the best possible prices”.
School bags lead demand
School bags are currently the most sought-after items, followed by notebooks, stationery and other essential school supplies, Hadjidadamou said.
He added that supermarket ranges have expanded significantly to cater for consumers looking for both lower- and mid-range products and those seeking more expensive options.
“We make sure there are options for every need and every budget,” he said, adding that supermarkets are placing greater emphasis on serving the majority of consumers, who tend to look for lower- or mid-priced products.
Offers and loyalty schemes available
Some supermarkets have already announced special offers, while consumers can also make use of loyalty cards and other reward programmes.
Hadjidadamou noted that school supplies were traditionally sold mainly by specialised shops and large supermarkets.
Today, however, smaller and medium-sized supermarkets also have expanded school sections, providing consumers with greater variety and more choice.
