Seventeen people were arrested for a range of offences during overnight Cyprus police operations involving hundreds of vehicle and identity checks across the island.
Police maintained an increased presence in key urban areas, carrying out organised patrols aimed at preventing serious crime, maintaining public order and strengthening public safety.
The arrests were made for offences including drug possession, possession of burglary tools, carrying a knife, illegally remaining in the Republic and outstanding court fine warrants.
Hundreds of vehicles and people checked
During the overnight Cyprus police operations, officers stopped 445 vehicles and carried out checks on 556 people travelling in them.
Police also inspected 47 premises as part of efforts to tackle illegal activity, resulting in four reports.
A total of 16 vehicles were detained as part of police investigations.
More than 250 traffic violations reported
Traffic checks resulted in 256 reports for various offences, while a further 17 suspected traffic violations are under investigation.
Of the violations reported, 71 involved drivers exceeding the speed limit.
Four drivers were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, while another four cases of suspected drug-driving were identified following preliminary drug tests.
Police carried out 124 alcohol tests on drivers and eight checks for driving under the influence of drugs.
Targeted operations to continue
Police said crime prevention and enforcement operations will continue on a daily basis, with an increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action.
The measures are intended to protect the public, prevent and combat crime and maintain public order.
