Police officer struck by motorcyclist during traffic stop

Police in Larnaca are investigating a case involving the alleged assault of a police officer, causing actual bodily harm, dangerous driving and other related offences.

The incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday while a member of the Z Traffic Unit was carrying out traffic checks on Ankyras Street in Larnaca.

According to police, the officer signalled a motorcyclist to stop for inspection. Instead of complying, the rider allegedly accelerated, struck the officer and fled the scene.

An ambulance was called and the injured officer was taken to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a serious injury to his right arm. He was later discharged with medical instructions.

The Larnaca Minor Offences Department and the Traffic Police are continuing investigations to identify and locate the motorcyclist.
