Cyprus weather will remain hot on Friday, with temperatures reaching around 39°C inland, according to the Meteorological Service. Cooler conditions are expected over the weekend, while isolated afternoon showers are possible in some areas.
Temperatures will rise to around 39°C inland, 32°C along the southwest and west coasts, 34°C in the remaining coastal areas, and around 29°C in the higher mountains.
Stronger winds and rougher seas
The weather will be mostly clear, although periods of increased cloud are expected locally.
Winds will initially blow mainly from the southeast to southwest at light to moderate strength, 3 to 4 Beaufort. They will gradually shift to mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, strengthening to moderate to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort, and will become temporarily strong along the coast.
The sea will be slightly rough in western and northern areas at first and slight in southern and eastern waters. It will soon become generally slight to rough, while western waters will be rough.
Tonight, periods of increased cloud will continue. Winds will gradually weaken to light or moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming light inland later in the night. The sea will remain generally slight to rough.
Overnight temperatures will fall to around 23°C inland and along the coast, and around 18°C in the higher mountains.
Weekend brings cooler conditions
On Saturday and Sunday, Cyprus weather will feature intervals of increased cloud. After midday, isolated showers may develop, mainly over the mountains and eastern parts of the island.
Winds will remain enhanced on Saturday, particularly in coastal areas.
Monday is expected to be mostly fine with generally clear skies.
Temperatures to fall before rising again
Temperatures will drop on Saturday and remain at similar levels on Sunday, staying slightly below the seasonal average.
By Monday, Cyprus weather is expected to become warmer again, with temperatures returning to near the average climatic values for this time of year.
