How to access Cyprus TV channels after HD broadcasting rollout

Date:

Some viewers still experiencing problems

Cyprus officially switched to the DVB-T2 broadcasting standard on 1 July, bringing high-definition picture and improved sound quality to free-to-air private TV channels.

However, some viewers are still unable to access free Cyprus TV channels following the transition.

The change only affects households receiving free private television channels through an aerial. Subscription cable and satellite platforms, as well as RIK channels, are not affected.

Most complaints from Nicosia and Limassol

The highest number of complaints has been reported in the districts of Nicosia and Limassol.

Initially, around 1,200 people contacted the support centre for assistance. That number has since fallen to between 500 and 600 calls.

Speaking to SigmaLive, Hellas Sat CEO Vasilis Protopapas said the disruption had been anticipated and should ease over the coming days.

He noted that the public had been urged over the past three months to check their television installations ahead of the switch affecting Cyprus TV channels.

Why your TV may not be working

According to Protopapas, most remaining issues involve older home installations, which may require minor adjustments to wall sockets or antenna connections.

Other possible causes include older television sets, low-quality DVB-T2 receivers or incorrect country settings on televisions and set-top boxes.

How to restore your channels

If your television is a modern model, generally manufactured after 2017, and supports DVB-T2, you only need to perform a channel rescan or automatic retune.

If your television does not support DVB-T2, you will need to purchase a compatible DVB-T2 decoder, which typically costs between €20 and €50, or replace the television with a newer model.

Anyone experiencing difficulties can visit the Hellas Sat Digital website or contact the customer support centre on 22 000737 for assistance.
