A series of fire incidents were recorded in Paphos within 24 hours, including a blaze near Polemi linked to works at a photovoltaic park and a separate house fire in Chloraka caused by an electrical fault.
According to the Fire Service, the fire that broke out around 10:30 am between the communities of Polemi and Stroumpi appears to have been caused by ongoing works at a photovoltaic park.
Fire crews from Paphos and Stroumpi rural stations responded with three fire engines to the scene.
The fire burned approximately eight decares of dry grass, wild vegetation and unharvested barley before being brought under control at 11:27am.
The Game and Fauna Service also assisted with a portable firefighting unit.
Chloraka house fire during early hours
In a separate fire incident in Paphos, firefighters were called to a house in Chloraka at around 3:30 am after a dishwasher caught fire in a kitchen.
Two fire engines from the Paphos station responded and brought the blaze under control within approximately 30 minutes.
The fire caused extensive damage to the appliance and affected part of the kitchen equipment.
Authorities said the fire likely originated from an electrical fault in the dishwasher.
Fire Service response across 24 hours
The Fire Service reported that it responded to 22 calls within a 24-hour period, including 13 fires, eight special assistance incidents and one false alarm.
Investigations into the Paphos fire incidents are ongoing.
