CY-Alert test notification to be sent nationwide today

Date:

A CY-Alert test notification will be sent to mobile phones across Cyprus today as part of a nationwide check of the population early warning system.

The Department of Civil Defence said the test will take place between 2:30pm and 3:30pm in a real operational environment.

The notification will simulate a kidnapping or missing person scenario and will be clearly marked as a “test” or “exercise”.

No action required from the public

Authorities stressed that the alert does not relate to a real incident and no action is required from citizens.

To avoid causing unnecessary concern, the notification will not include the distinctive loud warning sound normally associated with emergency alerts.

Part of system readiness checks

The nationwide message forms part of the final scheduled operational test of the CY-Alert system, which is designed to provide rapid warnings to the public during emergencies.
