Cyprus weather forecast brings rain and temperature rise

Date:

Showers, thunderstorms and hail possible

A weak low-pressure system and an unstable air mass are affecting the region, bringing a risk of isolated showers and thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous and inland areas.

According to the latest weather forecast, conditions will become mainly fine after the dissipation of local low cloud and patchy mist or fog. However, periods of increased cloud cover are expected to develop around midday and early afternoon, bringing isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly over the mountains and inland regions.

Hail is also possible in areas affected by thunderstorms.

Winds will be mainly southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, becoming locally strong at 4 to 5 Beaufort along southern coastal areas later in the day. The sea will be slight.

Temperatures will reach 34C inland, 28C along the west coast, around 30C in the remaining coastal areas and 24C in the higher mountains.

Clear conditions overnight

Tonight, the weather will remain mostly clear, although periods of increased low cloud are expected. Patchy mist or fog may develop later in some areas.

Winds will be mainly northwesterly to northeasterly at around 3 Beaufort, while the sea will remain calm to slight.

Temperatures will fall to around 19C inland and along the coast, and 14C in the higher mountains.

Warmer weather on the way

The weather forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday points to generally fine conditions across the island.

Temperatures are expected to rise steadily over the three-day period, climbing above the seasonal average by the end of the week.
