Cyprus and France are set to sign a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) on Monday in Nicosia, according to information obtained by the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
The agreement will be signed by Cypriot Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas and his French counterpart, Catherine Vautrin, during a bilateral meeting scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon at the Filoxenia Conference Centre.
The signing will follow the conclusion of the informal EU Foreign Affairs Council (Defence), which is being hosted in Nicosia as part of Cyprus’ Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
President Nikos Christodoulides announced during the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Nicosia in April that the SOFA agreement would be signed in June.
The agreement will provide the framework for hosting French forces on Cypriot territory in support of humanitarian operations in the wider region.
