Air raid alerts return to Ukrainian capital
Russian aerial attacks were underway in the early hours over Kyiv after a three-day ceasefire expired, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The head of the Kyiv military administration, Timur Tkachenko, said via Telegram that enemy drones were operating over the city and urged residents to take shelter.
“Unmanned aerial vehicles are currently over Kyiv. Please stay in shelters until the alarm is lifted,” he said, warning of possible further explosions. Tkachenko also reported that a drone had struck a residential building in the Obolonskyi district of the capital.
This marks the first air raid alert of this type in Kyiv since 8 May, following a brief three-day ceasefire period.
Ceasefire ends amid renewed hostilities
The temporary truce, which began on Saturday and was announced in connection with diplomatic efforts involving US President Donald Trump, has now expired.
Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire while it was in effect.
Ukraine reported Russian drone strikes in eastern regions, while Russia accused Ukrainian forces of attacks in the Belgorod region.
Ongoing escalation in conflict
The latest developments underline the fragile nature of temporary ceasefire arrangements in the ongoing war.
Air raid alerts and drone activity continue to be a daily threat in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, with civilians frequently urged to take shelter during attacks.
Authorities say monitoring and defence operations remain active as the situation develops.
