Investigation launched after newborn injured

Police in Larnaca are investigating a case involving a newborn who suffered injuries during a bath at the General Hospital.

According to authorities, the Minor Offences Department in Larnaca is examining the circumstances under which the infant, born on 7 April 2026, sustained burns to the legs on 8 April 2026. The injuries reportedly occurred while the baby was being bathed by nursing staff, allegedly due to high water temperature.

Infant transferred for treatment

Police spokesperson for Larnaca, Spiros Chrysostomou, said the infant was transferred to Makarios Hospital for further medical care following the incident.

Internal probe also underway

At the same time, the hospital’s management has launched an internal investigation into the case. Authorities stated that once examinations are completed, the evidence will be assessed to determine whether any criminal offences have been committed.

The investigation into the Larnaca hospital burns case remains ongoing.
