Animal Party demands transparency on culling of infected animals

Calls for review of crisis handling

The Animal Party is calling for transparency over the management of the foot-and-mouth disease crisis, urging authorities to reassess key decisions.

In a statement, the party requested an evaluation of actions that led to mass culling, as well as the adoption of alternative, scientifically backed methods where possible.

Questions over mass killings of animals

The party expressed “deep concern and sadness” over the handling of the situation, noting that large numbers of animals were culled, including healthy ones.

It argued that this raises serious questions about planning, preparedness, and whether timely preventive measures were taken by the relevant authorities.

Farmers facing economic consequences

The statement also pointed to the financial burden on livestock farmers, who are dealing with significant losses as a result of the crisis.

The party stressed that fair and immediate state support should be considered essential.

Push for more ethical animal management

Beyond the immediate response, the Animal Party called for a broader shift toward more sustainable and ethical animal management models.

It said the issue should also prompt reflection on how animals are treated within the current production system.
