Runners to honour 27-year-old victim

Members and friends of the running groups “sea legs run” and “team runnins” will gather on Sunday for a memorial run for Dex in Limassol, paying tribute to the 27-year-old who lost his life in the double tragedy in Germasogeia.

The young man was found dead under the rubble of the apartment building where he lived, following its collapse at midday on Holy Saturday.

Symbolic route to keep memory alive

Through a symbolic route, those who knew him, along with other citizens, will honour his memory, keeping alive his presence, smile, and the positive energy he shared with those around him.

The initiative, marked by deep emotion, also sends a message of solidarity and practical support to his family.

“He spread light wherever he went”

In a statement, organisers described Dex as a person full of optimism.

“He loved Cyprus and always treated those around him with respect. Although life was not easy for him, he never showed it. He always wore a big smile, appreciated the simple things, and made everyone feel welcome,” the statement read.

It added that he had come to Cyprus seeking work, aiming to financially support his mother and loved ones in Nigeria.

“There are people who spread light wherever they go, and Dex was one of them. He stood by his friends, his family, and our community. He was one of us. Always active, always moving. He left far too soon, but he will never be forgotten. In his memory, we run.”

Fundraising effort for family

At the same time, organisers have launched a fundraising effort to support his family in Nigeria, aiming to offer financial assistance during this difficult time.

“We ask you to see the link in the profile for more information. On Sunday, we are also organising a memorial run. Everyone is welcome,” the announcement concluded.
