Survivor describes moments before collapse

A testimony has revealed harrowing details from inside the building that collapsed in the Potamos Germasogeias area of Limassol.

Speaking to the television programme “Mesimeri kai Kati”, a survivor named Raphael described how he was inside the apartment with a roommate when the building suddenly collapsed.

He said the incident occurred around 1 pm on Saturday while he was preparing to go to the gym.

“I don’t know how I survived. Only God knows why I am alive,” he said, recalling the moment he managed to escape and call out for his friend, who remained trapped inside.

Emotional account of loss and shock

The survivor testimony highlighted the emotional impact of the tragedy, with Raphael saying the experience left him and others without belongings or financial security.

“Now we have lost everything, we have nothing,” he said, adding that he lost money earned through work and all personal possessions inside the building.

He also expressed fear and grief over his missing friend, who he later learned had died in the collapse.

“The most painful thing is that he came here alive and now he has lost his life,” he said.

Calls for support and assistance

The survivor appealed for immediate assistance from authorities, saying affected individuals urgently need help with housing and basic needs.

He said many residents are currently staying in a hotel, but are uncertain how long they will be able to remain there.

“We don’t know how to handle this situation; we need help from the government, and anywhere it can come from,” he said.
