Consumers demand fair treatment
The Cyprus Consumers Association criticised the government for excluding heating oil from the recent reduction in fuel duty. Motor fuels will see a cut of 8.3 cents per litre from 1 April to 30 June 2026, but heating oil remains outside the measure.
Heating oil prices surge
The Association highlighted that heating oil prices rose by an average of 32 cents per litre since 1 March 2026 and warned that further increases are likely next week. They called on the Ministry of Finance to include heating oil in the reduced duty, stressing that excluding it from the subsidy lacks justification.
High spring consumption
Heating oil consumption stays significant in April–June, especially in mountainous areas where people use it until mid-May. Data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus show that average monthly consumption for this period reaches 2,549 tonnes, demonstrating the urgent need for tax relief.
