Palaichori crash: What happened and the condition of the children

Date:

A head-on collision between a school bus and a private vehicle occurred on the Agios Epifanios-Palaichori road.

Ten secondary school students had finished their classes and were returning to their community of Palaichori. At a point on the road near the Agios Epifanios junction, and under circumstances that are still under investigation, the driver of a passing vehicle reportedly lost control and crossed into the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the school bus.

A total of 13 people were injured, including 10 students and three adults, and were transported by ambulance to hospital. Fortunately, their condition is not considered serious. Six ambulances were required to transfer the injured to hospital.

According to information from Sigma, the driver of the vehicle that reportedly entered the opposite lane was travelling to Nicosia General Hospital to undergo dialysis. He is believed to have lost consciousness, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

The severe collision disrupted traffic in both directions on the Agios Epifanios-Palaichori road. Traffic flow was restored approximately one and a half hours later.
