Strovolos apartment fire: Two people taken to hospital, dog rescued

Date:

The Fire Service announced that over the past 24 hours it responded to 41 incidents, including 31 fires and 10 special service calls.

Early this morning, shortly after 06:26, Nicosia fire stations responded with four fire engines, including a telescopic ladder vehicle, to a fire in an upper-floor apartment on the second floor of a residential building in Strovolos, where two apartments had been merged into one.

According to a post by the Fire Service spokesperson, Andreas Kettis, firefighters entered the apartment and extinguished the blaze using water hoses and breathing apparatus.

The resident sustained minor burns to his hand and, together with his wife, was transported to Nicosia General Hospital for precautionary medical care due to smoke inhalation.

At the same time, firefighters rescued a dog that was found inside the apartment unable to react.

The Fire Service will proceed with an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
