A severe collision between a car and a motorcycle on the Limassol-Platres road has resulted in the death of 66-year-old driver Kyriakos Kyriakou. The motorcyclist, aged 40, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
Circumstances of the crash
According to Limassol Traffic Police officer Marios Charalambous, the incident occurred around 13:35. The 66-year-old was driving eastbound toward the Vati landfill when he attempted a right turn at the junction with the main Limassol-Platres road. This manoeuvre reportedly caused him to collide with a northbound motorcyclist.
The car driver became trapped inside the vehicle, requiring the intervention of the Fire Service for extrication. He was transported to Limassol General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Motorcyclist’s condition and safety concerns
The 40-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured and is undergoing surgery at a private medical facility. Police confirmed that the rider was not wearing a helmet and did not possess a valid driver’s licence.
Authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the crash as part of ongoing road safety monitoring in the region.
