Two F-16 Viper fighter jets operated by the Hellenic Air Force flew over Nicosia on Tuesday ahead of the military parade marking the 66th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus’ independence on October 1. The flights were part of preparations for the parade.
The low-level flyovers took place as part of scheduled rehearsal activity ahead of Thursday’s celebrations. The National Guard General Staff had announced that aircraft would conduct low-level passes over Nicosia on September 29 and said there was no cause for public concern.
F-16 Vipers over Nicosia
The two F-16 Vipers are among the modern fighter aircraft operated by the Greek Air Force. Greece’s F-16 fleet has undergone an upgrade programme to the Viper configuration, involving advanced systems and avionics.
The Greek Air Force’s participation in the October 1 celebrations was also included in preparations for this year’s parade, with reports indicating that F-16 aircraft would conduct flyovers over the parade area.

The military parade will take place in Nicosia on October 1 as part of celebrations marking the 66th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus’ independence.
A temporary airspace restriction has been issued for the parade area due to military movement and flying activity, covering September 29 and October 1.
