Cyprus weather will shift from mainly clear conditions to unsettled skies later today, with isolated showers spreading across the island.
Low pressure is gradually affecting the region, while a cold air mass is expected from tomorrow.
Initially, conditions will remain mostly clear, with locally increased cloud in western areas. Gradually, skies will turn partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy, bringing isolated showers first in the west and later across other regions.
On the highest peaks of Troodos, sleet or snow may fall.
Winds strengthening, seas roughening
Winds will blow mainly south-westerly to westerly, weak to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort. They will strengthen gradually to 4 to 5 Beaufort and later reach up to 5 to 6 Beaufort along windward coasts.
The sea will be slight to moderate at first, becoming locally rough later in the day.
Temperatures will rise to around 20C inland and along the coast, and to 7C in the higher mountains.
Rain overnight, frost in mountains
Overnight, local showers will gradually develop, with snowfall expected in the higher mountains. An isolated thunderstorm cannot be ruled out, although conditions will ease by morning.
Winds will start south-westerly to westerly at 4 to 5 Beaufort, and 3 to 4 Beaufort in sheltered areas. Later, they will turn westerly to north-westerly at similar strengths.
The sea will remain generally moderate to rough.
Temperatures will drop to 7C inland, around 10C on the coast and 1C in the higher mountains, where frost is likely to form locally.
Cooler trend until Friday
From Thursday to Saturday, mainly clear intervals will alternate with increased cloud, bringing a chance of isolated showers and light snowfall at times in mountainous areas.
A relatively cold northerly airflow will affect the region.
Temperatures will fall noticeably by Friday, dropping below average for the season. A slight rise is expected on Saturday.
