Plans unveiled at presidential meeting
The construction of the new Polis Chrysochous Hospital took a major step forward following a meeting at the Presidential Palace chaired by President Nikos Christodoulides. Representatives of OKYpY, the Mayor of the district, and members of the Parliamentary Health Committee attended. The tender process for the hospital is expected to be announced in the second half of 2026, with completion projected for 2028.
Mayor confident in project timelines
Mayor Giotis Papachristofi stated that OKYpY presented the hospital plans during the meeting. “Following the President’s announcement in early September, we now see this essential project moving ahead for our region,” he said. Papachristofi highlighted that timelines have been provided and expressed hope that the project will meet these deadlines to serve the community’s needs for decades to come.
He also acknowledged existing challenges with the current hospital, noting that the facilities are inadequate and staffing has minor issues, though the hospital continues to operate satisfactorily compared to previous years.
Parliamentary support for modern hospital
DISY MP Charalambos Pazaros welcomed the meeting, emphasising the hospital’s importance for the district’s residents, who often feel like second-class citizens. According to the proposed timelines, tenders are expected by September 2026, with project completion in September 2028.
AKEL MP Valentinos Fakontis also praised the President’s decision, stressing the need for a modern facility to meet local healthcare demands and urging all involved to adhere to the set timelines.
DIKO MP Chrysanthos Savvidis expressed gratitude to the President, noting that the aspirations of both MPs and citizens of Paphos and Polis Chrysochous are being realised with the official decision, planning, and presentation of the new hospital.
EDEK MP Ilias Myrianthous highlighted the Health Committee’s satisfaction, noting that the hospital will include a dialysis unit, maternity and paediatric clinics, and a trauma rehabilitation unit, with a projected cost of approximately €17 million. Tenders for the study phase are expected next month, with implementation tenders planned for the second half of the year.
Project milestones ahead
Officials anticipate that the President will visit Polis Chrysochous for the cornerstone-laying ceremony and later inaugurate the new hospital, marking the start of a modern healthcare era for the region.
