UN Envoy arrives in Cyprus
María Ángela Holguín, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Cyprus, is scheduled to meet negotiators from both communities later today. Her visit aims to prepare for upcoming discussions with the two leaders.
Preparatory meetings for leader talks
Holguín will hold a joint session with the negotiators to set the agenda and framework ahead of separate meetings with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders on Tuesday.
A joint leaders’ meeting with Holguín is also planned for 28 January, following up on the previous session on 11 December 2025.
Official statements and timeline
Holguín arrived in Cyprus today and will remain until 29 January. Last week, when asked about the talks, President Nikos Christodoulides stated that “our aim is to convene an expanded conference as soon as possible, which will lead to the announcement of the resumption of substantive negotiations.”
Next steps in the Cyprus issue
The upcoming meetings signal a continuation of diplomatic efforts to advance the Cyprus peace process, with both preparatory sessions and leader talks expected to shape the next steps toward resolving long-standing issues.
