Former WWE CEO, L. McMahon in the US Department of Education

Date:

Linda McMahon, former co-founder of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and co-chair of Donald Trump’s transition team, has been chosen as Secretary of Education in the incoming administration of the President-elect. Trump praised McMahon’s efforts, highlighting her commitment to promoting school choice across all states and returning education responsibilities to state governments.

McMahon has a history of supporting Trump’s campaigns, having donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to his initiatives. She also served as Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) during Trump’s first term and held leadership roles in organisations backing his political agenda.

However, McMahon faces controversial allegations related to a case linking WWE’s leadership to a failure to prevent the sexual abuse of minors by a former employee. Her lawyers have denied the allegations, labelling them “false and defamatory.”

Despite being relatively unknown in the education sector, McMahon has supported charter schools and educational choice. She previously served on the Connecticut State Board of Education and the board of trustees at Sacred Heart University.

Trump plans to dissolve the Department of Education and transfer its duties to state authorities, a move that would require congressional approval to implement.
