Fourteen students from Cyprus, along with two teachers and two chaperones, who had travelled to Tanzania for volunteer work and became stranded there due to political unrest, have been safely flown to Zanzibar.
As stated to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) by the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Theodoros Gotsis, the group of 18 people were airlifted from Kilwa to Zanzibar, and tomorrow, Tuesday, they will fly back to Cyprus via Dubai, where they are expected to arrive on Wednesday morning.
Today, he said, the 18 will spend the night in Zanzibar.
The operation to repatriate the 18 Cypriots was carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the High Commission in Nairobi and the National Crisis Management Centre, in continuous coordination with the EU Delegation in Dar es Salaam, Mr Gotsis concluded.
