Isolated showers and thunderstorms expected across Cyprus today

Date:

The weather will start mostly clear today, but from midday onwards, developing clouds are expected to bring isolated showers and a few thunderstorms, mainly over the mountains, inland areas and the southern coast, according to the Department of Meteorology.

A weak low-pressure system is currently affecting the region. Winds will be light and variable, occasionally moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, while the sea will be calm to slightly rough. Temperatures will rise to around 30°C inland, 28°C along the coast, and 23°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear, though some increasing cloud cover is expected at times. Winds will shift mainly northwesterly to northeasterly, light at 3 Beaufort, and the sea will stay calm to slightly rough. Overnight temperatures will drop to 14°C inland, 17°C on the coast, and 11°C in the mountains.

On Thursday, periods of medium and high cloud will be observed, with a chance of isolated afternoon showers, especially in the mountains. Friday and Saturday will bring locally increased cloud cover, which may lead to isolated showers around midday and early afternoon, mainly over inland and mountainous areas.

Temperatures are expected to gradually fall slightly over the three-day period, returning to around the seasonal average.
