Fatal traffic accident in Larnaca claims life of 80-year-old

A fatal traffic accident in Larnaca occurred on Thursday, resulting in the death of Anastasios Michaila, aged 80, from Aradippou, according to police.

The incident took place at approximately 11:15am on Thursday, 28 August. An 80-year-old Greek Cypriot man, a resident of the Larnaca District, was driving a private vehicle in the wrong direction on the motorway between the Rizoelia roundabout and the Kalo Chorio roundabout in Larnaca.

According to police, the vehicle collided head-on with a taxi travelling in the correct lane, driven by a 32-year-old European national, a permanent resident of Nicosia.

The fatal traffic accident in Larnaca resulted in the immediate death of Anastasios Michaila due to the severity of the collision. The taxi driver sustained serious injuries but is reported to be in stable condition.

Both individuals were transported by ambulance to Larnaca General Hospital, where doctors confirmed the 80-year-old’s death.

The motorway from Kalo Chorio to Larnaca Airport was temporarily closed due to the accident but has since reopened, and traffic is now flowing normally.
