CVAR foundation inviting artists to explore Cypriot heritage

Date:

Artists working in jewellery, ceramics, or object-making are invited to take part in Tradition Reimagined — a unique exhibition exploring Cypriot heritage through modern artistic interpretations.

The event is a collaboration between the Centre of Visual Arts & Research (CVAR) of the Costas & Rita Severis Foundation and the JELO6 Project Cyprus. The aim is to celebrate the intersection of tradition and contemporary creativity by inviting artists to create original works inspired by historical Cypriot costumes from the CVAR museum collection.

Each participating artist will be assigned a male–female costume pair and will respond to it by crafting either:

  • an accessory or adornment that complements or enhances the traditional outfit, or
  • an object inspired by its story, textile, form, colour, or symbolism.

This curated exhibition will form a dialogue between past and present, showing how heritage can be reinterpreted through material and design. Artists are encouraged to explore texture, technique, and cultural memory in new and bold ways.

To apply or find out more about Tradition Reimagined, interested artists can contact [email protected] or visit the project’s open calls page and select the “Tradition Reimagined” option.

Let’s reimagine heritage together — through metal, textiles, clay, textures and form.
