Metsola: Peace in Ukraine is difficult, but possible

Date:

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has expressed cautious optimism about peace in Ukraine, following a key meeting in Washington involving the US President, the Ukrainian President, and EU leaders.

In a post on X, Metsola said the meeting “could shift the momentum” towards a peace process that is “difficult, but not impossible.” She highlighted that the involvement of global powers offers a realistic path forward.

She stressed that lasting peace must include strong security guarantees for Ukraine, not just a pause before a future war. “Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine,” she wrote, echoing a long-standing EU stance.

“The EU has always fought for peace—we know the cost of war,” Metsola added, reaffirming the bloc’s continued support for Ukraine.
