Limassol wildfire was arson, suspects Fire Chief

Date:

Limassol wildfire was possibly arson, as has been officially confirmed by Fire Chief Nikos Longinos, who said the deadly blaze was deliberately set in two separate locations.

Speaking on state radio, Longinos revealed that eyewitnesses saw the fire begin at two ignition points, approximately 100 metres apart, beneath a bridge near a known waste disposal site. The eyewitnesses immediately alerted the Fire Service.

The Limassol wildfire arson case is now under police investigation, with relevant information already handed over by the Fire Service.

Longinos also rejected public claims of delay or mismanagement, stating that a fully staffed fire engine arrived on site just six minutes after the initial emergency call.

He added that the situation remains extremely challenging, with active fire fronts still burning across the region and firefighting operations ongoing.
