Police are investigating an attempted murder in Pyla after a 49-year-old man was shot outside his home shortly after midnight on Monday, 14 July.
According to police spokesperson Marina Christodoulidou, the victim was returning home and still in the front yard of his residence when an unknown hooded assailant opened fire, shooting twice before fleeing the scene. The victim was struck in the leg.
Emergency services rushed the man to Larnaca General Hospital, where he was found to have a gunshot wound to the lower right leg. He remains hospitalised.
Evidence and witness statements being evaluated
The scene was immediately cordoned off, and investigators collected multiple items of evidence. Forensic teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Larnaca and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit returned on Monday morning to continue examinations.
Initial findings suggest the shots were fired from a handgun, and that the attack was targeted. Police are now reviewing witness testimonies and material evidence to help identify the masked gunman.
“The case remains at a preliminary stage,” Christodoulidou confirmed. “At this point, all evidence and witness material are being carefully evaluated.”
No arrests have been made so far, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward.
