UPDATE: Ayia Fyla blaze confirmed as deliberate arson attack

Date:

Authorities have confirmed that the fire which broke out early Friday morning in the ground floor parking area of an apartment building in Ayia Fyla, Limassol, was the result of a deliberate arson attack involving an explosive device.

The fire erupted at approximately 2:20am and quickly spread, destroying five parked vehicles and damaging two more. Residents were evacuated from the building as flames threatened to engulf the structure. The fire also caused structural damage to the walls of the complex.

Investigations by the Fire Service, bomb squad, and Limassol Police continued throughout the day. According to Lefteris Kyriakou, head of Limassol CID, the fire originated in a vehicle registered to a company but driven by a specific individual.

Initial findings pointed to suspicious circumstances, and it was later confirmed that an incendiary explosive device had been placed in the car where the fire began.

Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings and have begun collecting witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation. No injuries were reported, but the extent of the damage has raised serious concerns among residents.
