A suspected contract killing took place in Chalandri, where a man was fatally shot in broad daylight.
The victim was exiting a medical centre in the area when two individuals approached him, opened fire, and then disappeared from the scene.
Shortly afterwards, two cars were found engulfed in flames in Filothei and the Patima area of Chalandri. Authorities believe these were the getaway vehicles used by the assailants.
Investigations are ongoing following the mafia-style execution of Giorgos Moschouris, a known member of the so-called “Greek Mafia,” in Chalandri.

Moschouris, also known by the nickname “Thamnakias”, had previously drawn the attention of the authorities for various criminal activities, including fuel smuggling, protection rackets, and extortion. In 2020, there was already an assassination attempt against him. However, his activities following his recent release from prison appear to have led to his execution.
Authorities are investigating whether the order for the hit was given by another member of the Greek Mafia who is currently incarcerated and with whom the victim had an ongoing feud. A second line of inquiry concerns whether certain individuals were displeased with Moschouris’s possible involvement in cigarette smuggling.
Police are thoroughly examining the victim’s car, which was parked next to the private clinic where the ambush was carried out.
Authorities are also exploring the possibility that two Kalashnikov rifles were used in the attack—fired both by the driver and the front-seat passenger of the perpetrators’ vehicle.
According to reports, the assailants had stolen one of the vehicles used earlier the same day. The owner had not realised the theft and believed her car was still parked where she had left it. The attackers set the car on fire a few kilometres from the scene of the murder, in the Patima area, in what is believed to be an attempt to destroy evidence.

The execution was carried out in broad daylight. The killers waited for their target to exit the clinic, then approached and opened fire with Kalashnikov rifles. Most of the bullets struck the victim in the head. Aiming at his back, several of the bullets passed straight through, with some even embedding themselves in the glass of the clinic reception desk. By a miracle, the secretaries and nurses who were on the ground floor at the time were not injured, nor were any of the passers-by in the area.

Immediately after the shooting, the perpetrators fled. Not long afterwards, the fire brigade received calls about vehicles on fire, focusing in particular on one burning car in Patima, Chalandri.

The case has been taken over by the Directorate for Organised Crime, with homicide and extortion officers currently at the scene.
