Man disrupts church service and attacks police officers in Paphos

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Paphos after allegedly causing a disturbance during a church service and attacking police officers on the evening of Orthodox Holy Monday.

According to a statement from the Police Headquarters Communication Branch, the man entered the Church of Agia Paraskevi in Geroskipou during a service around 8:00 p.m. and began shouting and behaving aggressively.

Police were called to the scene and located the suspect outside the church. When asked to provide identification, the man reportedly assaulted the officers and was immediately arrested for the offence.

A subsequent search found the man in possession of a small quantity of drugs and a firecracker. The items were confiscated, and the man remains in custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

The case is being handled by the Paphos Minor Offences Office.
