Investigation ongoing into fatal fire at Dromolaxia factory

Date:

The investigation continues into the fire at the polystyrene production factory in Dromolaxia, where a blaze broke out on the morning of Sunday, 3 November.

The charred remains of the 63-year-old man who tragically lost his life were finally recovered yesterday after a lengthy operation and were transferred to Larnaca General Hospital.

According to information from CNA, appropriate examinations will follow to identify the body in collaboration with anthropologists and experts due to the condition in which it was found.

It is noted that yesterday, a safe passageway was created on the ground floor of the factory, and in the presence of an anthropologist called to the scene, the body of the deceased man, who was burned beyond recognition, was retrieved.

The 63-year-old had been performing electrical work on the first floor of the factory and was unable to escape.

Four other people performing maintenance work on the ground floor managed to exit the burning factory, which was completely destroyed. One of them is being treated for burns in the hospital.

The site is currently under guard. Further examinations are expected to assess the building’s structural stability before experts enter to investigate the cause of the fire.

According to CNA, the family has appointed Marios Matsakis as their medical examiner representative for the autopsy.
