An 85-year-old man is in critical condition following a road collision in Nicosia on Wednesday afternoon.
The collision occurred at around 3.45 pm at Archbishop Makarios Square, near the Anthoupoli refugee settlement.
According to information under investigation, a car driven by a 38-year-old man was reversing when, under circumstances being examined, it struck the 85-year-old, who was walking behind the vehicle at the time.
Man suffers brain haemorrhage
The 85-year-old was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors found that he had suffered a brain haemorrhage. He was admitted for treatment, with his condition described as critical.
The 38-year-old driver underwent an alcohol test, which returned a negative result. He also underwent a preliminary drug test, which produced a positive indication.
Police investigation continues
The Lakatamia Police Station is continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the road collision.
