A 44-year-old man, a third-country national, has been arrested to assist police investigations into an attempted murder and the arson of four rental vehicles in Pyla.
According to Larnaca Police, the suspect—who is already serving a prison sentence—was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, 28 August. A court-authorised search was carried out in his prison cell, where various items were seized as evidence.
The man is expected to appear before Larnaca District Court today for a remand order in connection with the case.
The incident occurred at around 4:00am on 14 August, when four cars belonging to a car rental company were set on fire at a premises located on the coastal road of Pyla.
Investigations by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and Larnaca CID revealed that two individuals arrived at the scene in a vehicle, poured flammable liquid on the cars, and set them alight. One of the suspects is believed to have also attempted to attack a security guard during the incident.
